There has been a long-standing legend about the origin of Tioman Island among the locals. It was very far in the past, the Third Princess of the Dragon King crossed the South China Sea for fleeing marriage. Enraptured by the charm of the place, she decided to make it her final resting spot. She then transformed herself into a beautiful island. The twin peaks, Tioman’s famous landmark are said to resemble the ears of the legendary princess. And the clouds around the mountain were formed by her breath.
